Plant-sitting and live-streaming in her friends flat, Gayara unearths the untold histories of her Amazonian ancestors, from those who watched the first Europeans lay claim to her land, to the women fighting to defend the forest today.

Lead Artist Bio

Gaël is an Amazon-born award-winning theatre & filmmaker who explores themes of gender, migration and environmental issues. 
In theatre, she brought visibility to the stories of underrepresented women with the shows “Frida Kahlo: Viva La Vida!” (OffComm & Argus Angel for Artistic Excellence awards), “Camille Claudel” (Prêmios Metro & ACPT nominations in Mexico) and “The Other” (Three Weeks Editor's Choice & Amnesty International Freedom of Expression shortlist). Recently her work has been presented at the Young Vic Theatre, The Lowry, BE Festival, Norwich Theatres, Chicago Physical Festival amongst others. Her short film “Ana” received a best film award at the International Screen Awards and a  Best actress in a Drama award at the New York Actors Film Festival.  She is an associate artist with immersive theatre company Limbik Theatre and is currently co-developing her first TV series on climate change. www.gaellecornec.com .
